Managing Hints, Shortcuts & Dynamic Templates

Master creating personal hints, configuring trigger keys, using dynamic placeholder variables, and text logging.

Hints are the core building blocks of Supahint. A Hint is a reusable text snippet, response template, or prompt that can be instantly inserted into any web form.

1. Creating a Personal Hint#

  1. Open the Supahint Sidepanel or navigate to your Dashboard.
  2. Click + New Hint.
  3. Enter your template text in the editor.
  4. (Optional) Assign a custom shortcut or trigger key (e.g. helpdesk-reply).
  5. Save your hint. It becomes instantly available across all synchronized browsers.

2. Dynamic Variables & Placeholders#

Supahint supports dynamic placeholders that automatically resolve when inserted into text inputs:

VariableDescriptionExample Output
{{date}}Inserts the current date2026-08-06
{{time}}Inserts current timestamp14:30
{{clipboard}}Paste active clipboard textText from clipboard
{{customer_name}}Dynamic prompt input fieldPrompted user input

Example Dynamic Template:#

text
Hello {{customer_name}},

Thank you for contacting support on {{date}}. We have received your inquiry regarding your account.

Best regards,
Support Team

3. Trigger Keys & Auto-Completion#

By default, typing / in any editable field (Gmail, Zendesk, Notion, Slack web, custom CRMs) triggers the Supahint overlay:

  1. Type / followed by your hint keyword (e.g. /thanks).
  2. Supahint displays matching templates ordered by relevance and usage frequency.
  3. Press Enter to automatically replace your typed trigger with the full template text.

4. Select-Text Logger (Quick Capture)#

Need to save a helpful response you just typed?

  1. Highlight the text snippet on any website.
  2. Right-click and choose Save to Supahint Hints (or use the floating quick-capture button).
  3. The selected text is saved directly into your hint repository for future reuse.

5. Pinning Favorite Hints#

Click the Pin icon next to frequently used hints. Pinned hints always appear at the top of your trigger overlay and sidepanel search results for maximum speed.
